BOYZ N THE HOOD

CRUISIN' DOWN THE STEET IN MY SIX FO

As today marks the birthday of late rap legend Eric 'Easy-E' Wright, I'm going to take this opportunity to cherish Easy and N.W.A who came crashing onto the music scene in the 80s and inspired a generation. Music is probably the only thing I love just as much as fashion, and I honestly wish that I could find some sort of time transportation device so that I could journey back in time and experience the fashions of the 80s, (although I sometimes now dress like some sort of throwback from the 80s) as well as for the music, a decade which houses several of my favourites. I am in awe of this generation, everything was new and groundbreaking and it just seems like it was all so happening. If I could be reborn into any era the 80s would definitely be it. As a grade 8 violinist, from the age of 5 I have been on stage performing; and the feeling you get when you hear the applause is indescribable, like one of those moments you are so happy you just can't stop smiling, so to think that Easy and N.W.A went from having very little, beating all the odds to make it in an industry dominated by White Americans and therefore completely changing the lives of themselves and their families must have been incredible. From thousands of fans, to hearing your songs on the radio, to performing sellout tours all over the USA, I can only begin to imagine how exciting a time it must have been for them.
With only small amounts of video footage of the group performing live available, the release of the Straight Outta Compton, a biopic based on the rap 5-piece N.W.A, creates for those who weren't fortunate enough to have ever seen them live an idea of what it must have been like back in N.W.A's golden days.
Since I first saw the trailer in February, it immediately became my no.1 most desired film to see, (yes it was a 6 month wait and probably about 65 trailer viewings later) but I have to say it was more than worth it. Not only is the casting sublime, (O'shea Jackson Jr. yes yes yes), the film's director F. Gary Grey and production designer Shane Valentino do a fantastic job portraying the urban crisis and the 'War on Poverty' surrounding gangs, guns and crack cocaine on the streets of 1980s Compton, which really was integral in the bands formation. Drugs, crime and poverty all heavily influenced their music, which ultimately highlighted the tensions between the African-American communities and the police, something which wasn't very well received by the authorities. Voila, the reality-rapper is born.
Although I was only 4 years old when Easy died, I'll still rep my LA Dodgers cap to this day and will never stop me from having Gangsta Gangsta on repeat. I think N.W.A and Easy will always have a special place in my heart. Happy Birthday Easy, we love you.

UGH. AS IF!

Although I was only 4 years old when Amy Heckerling's Clueless was released, as yesterday marked its 20 year anniversary I can only help but feel nothing but old. The 'original Mean Girls' as I like to think of it has been something which I had on repeat throughout my entire childhood and has since continued to be a favourite of mine, going hand in hand with my affinitive love for the Spice Girls. To mark the joyous day that Clueless graced our screens a new book titled As If! has been released featuring all sorts of fun behind-the-scenes polaroids of the cast and crew. To date, Clueless still manages to influence my day to day fashion choices, and I still want to be Cher Horowtitz just as much now as I did at 14. Having said this however, I would like to think that my sartorial choices of 2015 are somewhat indefinitely better put together than a teenage me circa 2000 who danced around the bedroom making up dance routines to 2 Become 1 and Eternal Flame... (Yes, it happened). I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank my mother for telling me just how cute my styling was, even though in reality we all know that embellished headbands were never cool unless you are Blair Waldorf and that blue eyeshadow will always be a myth, and for secondly telling me just how great those dance routines really were. Your continued support is very much appreciated.

LOVEBOX FESTIVAL

LOVEBOXI had such a fantastic time at this year's festival at London's Victoria Park. I am still struggling to come to terms with the fact that I am going to have to wait a whole year for another dose. What a lineup, I can certainly say that Lovebox had conjured up one of the strongest lineups of the summer, who could say no? Well done MAMA & Company, I take my hat off to you.
Festivals and fashion go hand in hand, from boho chic to hipster to indie kings and queens, each and every festival will play home to all kinds of fashion forward extroverts with Lovebox being no exception. I myself took inspiration from Lana Del Rey's infamous floral crown and created one of my own at home, (I'm arty like that). With this I also wore a white off the shoulder crochet dress paired with black Miu Miu glitter boots. Bring on Lovebox 2014.

WINSTON WOLFE S/S'14

As you may or may not know, my love for leather is forever growing, I'm a total sucker! From leather pants to leggings to waistcoats, it's fair to say that I certainly have my fair share. But nonetheless, I feel leather is timeless and therefore makes a great investment, so I am always keeping an eye out for new pieces to add to my collection. This is when I stumbled across the Australian gem Winston Wolfe who creates simple, stylish and quality pieces at affordable everyday girl prices (still out of my student budget, but hey-ho). These stunning images are from the Winston Wolfe S/S'14 launch, courtesy of Oracle Fox. I don't know about you, but I just cannot decide which piece I love with the most? I'd happily own each and every one!

WHEN IN NEW YORK

NY. I really do think that it is one place I could visit over and over and never leave fully satisfied. This was the most amazing trip; it really is the city that never sleeps. Take me back, please.

HAIR OBSESSION

Totally loving the Balenciaga hair halos! Despite them being S/S'13, they're so angelic and festive, which is what my life's all about at the moment. I'm on a Christmas high so they really caught my attention! I adore gold, but to my surprise my favourite is the blonde who is actually wearing silver. Maybe that's because gold is hard to carry off in blonde hair, or maybe just because her hair resembles mine the most. I do tend to favour things which resemble my myself, particularly when it comes to hairstyles and colours... Maybe it's just me that does that, but I'm constantly on the look out for inspiration and it's always easy to relate to something that resembles yourself, right? Oh and Happy Holidays everyone! x
